Location:
The Parish Office, 29C Station Road, Netley Abbey, Southampton,
SO31 SAE or any other such location as agreed by the Parish Council.
Salary:
SLCC LC2 Substantive £35,412 - £39,152)
Hours:
37 per week to include some evenings and weekends
Our council and the role:
Hound Parish Council is situated to the south-east of the city of Southampton, and flanked on one side by the ruins of Netley Abbey and on the other by the Royal Victoria Country Park. Serving the villages of Netley Abbey and Butlocks Heath, Hound is located in the borough of Eastleigh.
The Deputy Clerk will deputise for the Clerk in their absence including the day-to-day running of the office and estate. They will work with the Clerk on event management/estate & operations/facilities management, plus general and office support with HR, Finance and Administration.

● Support the Clerk: Assist and step in for the Parish Clerk.
● Deliver Council objectives: Drive priorities and policy options.
● Provide statutory cover: Act as Responsible Financial Officer if needed
● Maintain financial records: Handle accounting systems and regular banking.
● Process the payroll: Run wages, tax, and pensions.
● Produce budget forecasts: Prepare income, expenditure, and audit accounts.
● Manage business cash: Control invoices, investments, and cash flow.
● Track Council property: Keep an updated register of assets
● Manage office administration: Supervise daily routines and staff cover.
● Line manage employees: Direct support staff and track attendance.
● Support official meetings: Publish agendas, take minutes, and attend.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong literacy and numeracy skills, project and event management, email etiquette, and customer service skills. They will look to continuously improve the office procedures and systems and ensure policies are compliant.
They should be proactive in their approach and ideally will hold CiLCA qualification.
